MINDFULNESS-BASED STRESS REDUCTION (MBSR) is the largest and best-known stress reduction programme in the world. It was developed by Dr Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center over 30 years ago, to support patients suffering from chronic pain and has since been adapted by Mark Williams, John Teasdale and Zindel Segal as a relapse prevention programme for depression (MBCT). 
Its benefits have been widely endorsed by the international scientific and medical communities, including the UK’s National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE
)
 

Those who have completed the Mindfulness course report:
  • An ability to cope better with the stresses of daily life
  • A greater capacity to be fully in the present moment
  • Increased confidence and improved self-esteem
  • More energy and enthusiasm
  • An increased ability to engage positively with the world

 

The training offers an integrated programme of guided meditation, mindful movement and a range of formal and informal practices,through which participants can discover how Mindfulness can help them engage more positively with the world. Daily practice for 45-60 minutes, supported by CDs and workbook, is a pivotal part of the training. Throughout, you are encouraged to foster a welcoming attitude of kindly acceptance to present moment experience.


Refresher Sessions: March 25, April 1, April 8, 2014
For those who have previously completed the 8-week training.  An opportunity to refresh and deepen your practice.  Contact Norma for details.
 
The next 8-week Mindfulness courses led by Norma: 

High Barnet:  September 23 - November 17, 2014 
                          Tuesdays, 7:15 - 9:15pm 
                          (8 sessions, 2 hours weekly, except Oct 28)

Potters Bar:   September 25 - November 27, 2014
                           Thursdays, 7:15 - 9:15pm
                           (8 sessions, 2 hours weekly,except Oct 16, Nov 13)
Plus one full day of  Mindfulness practice on Saturday November 8 (10am-3pm).

Previous experience in Mindfulness practice, Yoga or sitting meditation is not required to participate in this programme.
